My blog is dofollow and I try to stick with other blogs that are are also dofollow. It just makes things so much better for everyone. Bloggers get more commentators and those commenting get some link juice from the blog as well. It is a win-win situation. To block spammers the best way is to use Akismet, I think it is now available for 20 different blog platforms and is totally free. Eliminates a majority of spam for you. If spamming does occur I will simply delete it I really see no future problems. I have a total of 10 blogspot blogs most of them fairly new. I have changed my blog code to make it dofollow and thus far I have not been spammed, but I'm still too new to even have a page rank.
