Five days before he moves out of the White House, President Bush delivered his final address to the nation. You can read the full transcript here.
The president emphasized the safety the nation has had since 9/11, with no terrorist attacks.
But he added,
As the years passed, most Americans were able to return to life much as it had been before 9/11. But I never did.
And he talked about Iraq and Afghanistan’s steps towards democracy.
He didn’t revisit mistakes.
There are things I would do differently if given the chance…I have followed my conscience and done what I thought was right.
Keeping his remarks brief, he concluded,
For the final time, good night. May God bless this house and the next President, and may God bless you.
