Democracy in Pakistan result of Ms Bhutto’s dream: Zardari

NAU DERO: Present democracy in the country is the result of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s dream, said President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday while addressing a gathering on completion of the first year following the tragic incident of Ms Bhutto’s assassination.

“Victory of PPP is actually a success of all the political parties of the country,” he said adding Ms Bhutto’s blood has added a new chapter to Pakistan’s history. There is strong democracy in the country because of the sacrifices offered by Pakistan Peoples party as well as the struggle of other political parties.

President Zardari said Qaid-e-Awam Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto laid down the foundation of sacrifice for the cause of democracy.

“Pakistan is our beloved homeland and PPP always responded positively on its call,’ he said adding “even today I raise the slogan of Pakistan ‘Khapay’ (we want Pakistan)”.

The President said the enemy of the country and democracy is one and the same. He admitted that there are problems and there are non-state actors in the country.

We have to fight our own wars and we promise to tackle the scourge of terrorism not only for the stability of the country but for the entire region, Asif Zardari said.

Regarding the investigation into Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, he said we will have to for the United Nations.

“I know the murderers of Ms Bhutto and I will expose them,” the President claimed and asked the ‘friends’ to come forward and help him instead of putting questions as to who killed Ms Bhutto.

He said Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was the binding force for the four federating units and “we continue to hold on to it”.

President Zardari said dialogue is our arsenal.

Earlier, silence was observed for two minutes in respect of Shaheed Ms Benazir Bhutto.

Federal Minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi recited verses of the Holy Qur’an and prayed for eternal peace of Shaheed Ms Bhutto.
